The band classes at CFPCS are set up to provide students in the 6th through 12th grades with an introduction to the world of music and music performance. The curriculum is set up according to South Carolina performing arts standards.

Sixth grade : student are given a general introduction to the fundamentals of music and music performance. The majority of these students come to the middle school without any formal teaching in instrumental music. In their first year, we open the door to the basics of music by acquainting them with the fundamentals of music (Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, form, and expression) and the Principles of instrumental performance (Tone, balance, blend, intonation, embouchure, and technique). They will perform in at least one concert during the year.

Seventh grade : students build on what they learned in the 6th grade. Continuing to use the fundamentals of music and instrumental music performance, students begin learning how music is a tool for expression. Seventh graders will perform in at least one concert a year thus building awareness and confidence through performance and analysis.

Eighth grade-twelth :  students build on their knowledge of the first two years and strive to bring a more polished professional sound to their performances as a group and individually. At this level, we look closer at the works that we perform. We examine details, textures, and relationships between the instrument parts of the composition. Eighth graders build on their musical skills as well as increase their esthetic appreciation for music and its place in our society.
